Re: "Something More"

Typically, I don't watch the Oprah Winfrey show. In fact, I hadn't seen
it in several years. She's pretty well established as one of the
premier New Age gurus of Talk-TV. But the promos went something like,
"Do you find something MISSING in your life? ..do you wish for
something more?" Well, "this" I had to see! See what the New Age people
would come up with, to fill that void. (The show aired Oct 13,1998.) So
I taped it to check it out later.

Expecting more New Age babble, I wasn't disappointed. The author of a
book "Something More" was the featured guest. Many testimonials from
people in the audience: people with a good marriage, nice house,
wonderful kids, stable finances, well-liked and respected by friends
and community ... with "emptiness" inside. And of course, the tears
flowed freely. "But it's just NOT ENOUGH! SOMETHING IS MISSING!"

At several points the tears started to well up in my eyes, as I yearned
at that point, to be on Oprah's platform and proclaim to them Jesus'
invitation, "Come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I
will give you rest." (Mt11:28) To let them know Who the "unknown God"
is that they yearn for. (Acts17:23) The God Who "made the world and all
things in it. (vs24) to seek the Lord, if perhaps they might feel
after Him and find Him, though indeed He is not far from each one of
us. (vs27)

The special guest started into the correct assessment. She said the
problem is (and I forget her exact words now, but something like),
"DEITY DEPRIVATION." EXACTLY!! They need God!!

But the New Age solution: "going back to yourself." Making journals,
and collecting memorabilia representing various aspects of the person's
life and past. Looking into the "self." And ultimately, coming to the
realization that the "self" is "good." That "I am wonderful." I don't
think they used the actual word/s during that show...but, "self-esteem"
and "self-worth."

This is satan's old lie. They realize they "need God" but they look to
"self." The word of the LORD said of satan, "..you have said, I am a
god, I sit in the seat of God.." (Eze28:2) Remember, satan was the
"anointed cherub that covers" (28:14) the Mercy Seat. God's very
presence. But rather than be content, and look to The God of the Mercy
Seat, Who "is not far from each one of us" man tries to sit in that
seat, himself. They have diagnosed the problem correctly, "Deity
deprivation." (And we know the cause of that "deprivation" is "sin."
-Isa59:2) But have come to the wrong solution. "Self."

While claiming "success" in their own lives on these counts, both Oprah
and the guest had faces (countenance/s) of sadness and darkness. They
do not have the "joy of the Lord." (Neh8:10)

Jesus said, "The thief does not come except to steal and to kill and to
destroy. I have come so that they might have life, and that they might
have it more abundantly." (Jn10:10) They "steal and kill" with their
false promises, because the truth about "self" is, "For I know that in
me (that is, in my flesh) dwells no good thing.."(Rom7:18) And the sin,
which is at the core of their "Deity deprivation", leads to "death."
(Rom6:23)

If they would only receive (Jn1:12) the "gift of God" (Rom6:23,Eph2:8)
and come to Jesus, Who is "the Way the Truth and the Life.." (Jn14:6)
they would experience His promise, "..the water that I shall give him
shall be in him a well of water springing up unto everlasting life."
(Jn4:14)

Amen!
