Re: Israel needs a Mascot (written Friday, April 2,99)

Israel has been heavy on my heart lately. The rumblings around Kosovo
and the growlings of the Russian 'bear', US running out of weapons
(cruise missles) and -no-plans- (of any kind) for an operation that's
seemingly been too-little too-late for the thousands of refugees and
victims of slaughter. Signs of major shifts in global power about to
happen as the US is sliding, and others (Russia, China) are rallying to
consolidate and build up. Similar situations/conditions that existed
just prior to WW1 and WW2. Soon, the prophesied assult against Israel
will get rolling, and her pain and sorrow that is imminent. Feelings
and yearnings of "could we please just get -on- with it, and get it
-over-with-" so we could be in Christ's peaceful rule. But, a
sorrow... realizing what is yet ahead for the "Apple" of God's eye,
Israel.

Yesterday in observance of Passover/Crucifixion my store was closed,
and after having spent a lot of time on VW stuff, as I lay down for a
little while to head-off an impending migraine, I did a little channel
surfing to see (hear) what's on TV during the day time when I'm usually
at work. So much garbage!!

The TV happened upon the Roseanne show from Hefner's Playboy mansion. I
must say that my 'respect' for the woman is -non-existent. One of the
more depraved talk-show hosts on today! But there was a comment one of
her guests said, as I happened to 'hover' there briefly...I don't know
his name..he is Jewish, which, apparently from their conversation,
Roseanne is, too. Talking about Jewish things, etc. He said, "Judaism
doesn't have a 'mascot' like other religions do." What's wrong with
Jews is that they don't have a mascot! Wow! I wonder if he realizes
-just- how "right on" he was! Until Zech12:10 is fulfilled, when they
"look on [Him] whom they have pierced"...they haven't recognized their
Messiah when He came! "He came to His own, and His own received Him
not." (Jn1:11) Jesus wept over Jerusalem as He fortold its destruction
"because you did not know the time of your visitation." (Lk19:44)

Please, don't misunderstand. Jesus is so-much-more than a mere
"mascot". But to the unregenerate mind that doesn't believe in Him as
Savior, they at least recognize Jesus as being Christianity's "mascot".
The key Figure, around Whom the 'organization' rallys itself. But even
today, considering their own "Jewish-ness", as their collective minds
and hearts rejected Him so long ago, He is blanked out of their hearts,
even today. Even their "G0d/G-d" they blank out with dashes or zeros.
They know they are 'lacking' something.

The Temple Mount Faithful movement was seeking to make sacrifices on
Temple Mount this Passover, even though there is no temple. [Apr4: the
e-mail from TMF indicates that their sacrifice was done on a hill
near-by to, and overlooking the temple mount again. The Arab situation
is still too volatile...which, frankly, is what I expected would happen
again] And you know, this matter of the "temple" got me thinking as I
read in Zechariah 6:12 recently, "and He shall build the temple of the
LORD." The TMF and many others have always assumed that the temple had
to be rebuilt before the Messiah would return, and the 70th week to
take place. But notice in Dan9:27 it only mentions the "sacrifice"
ceasing and the "altar" being the place for the "abomination" being
placed. Not the temple. Throughout Israelie history, there have been
many sacrifices, with no 'physical' temple present. Many people look to
the progress and preparations for the temple as being some sort of
"cue" that the rapture is imminent. They wonder how the Muslim "Dome
of the Rock" will be removed so the temple can be built. And -then- the
rapture and 70th week can take place.

But let's see another passage. The "son of perdition" (2Th2:3) is
usually assumed to "sit as God in the temple of God [AT JERUSALEM]."
And so they wait for the 'physical' temple preparations. But, just as
there is THE antichrist, there are also "many antichrists" already, by
which "know that it is the last hour."(1Jn2:18) So also, as THE son of
perdition will be revealed (2Th2:3,8) after "it [Holy Spirit and
Church] comes out of the midst" (vs7b); before that time the apostasy
(falling away) will be characterized by a false god sitting in the
"temple of God" pretending to -be- God. "..do you not know that your
body is the TEMPLE of the Holy Spirit in you.." (1Cor6:19) Is this not
what we see today? Not only the world and New Age, but most 'churches'
are proclaiming the "god within" ...how we become little gods. They
have rejected God Most High in favor of -SELF-. Self has been elevated
to god-hood.

But notice: "Behold the Man whose name is The BRANCH! And He shall
spring up out of His place, and He shall build the temple of the LORD.
Even He shall build the temple of the LORD; and He shall bear the
glory, and shall sit and rule on His throne." (Zech6:12-13)

Now...I wonder 'how long' it will take Messiah to do this building?
While the well-known passage speaks of His burial and resurrection, I
wonder if Mt26:61 gives us a clue? ...often, prophecy has more than one
part or fulfillment. 'Not stating a 'fact' here. just raising a
question for thought.

The "East Gate" has been all closed up with stone and mortar, waiting
for Messiah to come through it. When God continues His work with
Israel, He will come back to the Mt. of Olives (Zech14:4,Acts1:11) come
through that gate, will build His temple, and will rule. (Ez44:1-3) And
out of the sanctuary will come waters that will heal the world.
(Ez47,Zech13:1)

But this will all be God's work, not man's. Man is presently in the
process of fully messing everything up. Israel rejected their Messiah.
The "church" is in full nose-dive of apostasy, revealing to the "few"
(Mt7:14) that they never really were Believers in the first place.
(1Jn2:19)

But, back to Israel here... the time is coming, soon, in spite of their
present preparations to build a temple, that they will realize, "The
STONE which the builders rejected, this One has become the head of the
corner; this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes"
(Mt21:42,Ps118:22) They will realize, "The LORD has sorely chastened
me; but He has not given me over to death. Open to me the gates of
righteousness; I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD. This is
the gate of the LORD into which the righteous shall enter."
(Ps118:18-20) ...as the "earth shall be full of the knowledge of the
LORD, as the waters cover the sea.. (Is11:9) "..this is the covenant
that [I] WILL CUT with the house of Israel: After those days, says the
LORD, I will put My law in their inward parts, and write it in their
hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. ..they
shall all know Me...for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will
remember their sins no more." (~Jer31:33-34)

Amen!
