Re: Children of Light

But you are "an elect race," "a royal priesthood," "a holy nation," "a
people for possession," so that "you may openly speak of the virtues"
of the One who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
(1Pt2:9 litv)

Since Peter had the "apostleship of the circumcision" (Gal2:7-8), it is
appropriate that his first letter would be written to Jews; "to the
elect sojourners of the Dispersion." (1Pt1:1) To Believers of Israel's
descent. To be contrasted with his second letter "to those [Gentiles]
who have obtained like precious faith with us [Jews] through the
righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ." (2Pt1:1)

Many people take this verse out of context, and teach all sorts of
"kingdom theology" for the -Gentile- "Church".

This terminology "kingdom of priests" was what God called Israel when
He called them out of Egypt, if they would only be obedient to Him.
(Ex19:5-6) Israel was God's "chosen". (Ps135:4, Deu14:2) They were
specially labeled, His "elect". "..Israel, My elect, I entitle you.."
(Is45:4 litv)

Israel has been -temporarily- "broken off" (Rom11:19,26) and Gentiles
grafted in. As Israel was supposed to; the Church is also to "speak of
the praises of Him who has called [us].." We "were once dead in
trespasses and sins.." and He has "raised us up together and made us
sit together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus." (Eph2:1,6)

And so, many of the same desires God had for Israel, He has for the
Church. The psalmist prayed, "Jehovah will perfect His work in me; O
Jehovah, Your mercy endures forever; You will not forsake the works of
Your hands." (Ps138:8) Just as Israel was a work of God's hands, the
Church is "His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works.."
(Eph2:10) This is not something we can strive to accomplish. It is
-His- work in us. It was His mercy in the first place that saved us. It
was His "drawing" of us that brought us in. (Jn6:44) And He makes us
into the image of His Son (Rom8:29) just as the potter works the clay.
(Rom9:21)

Your Word is pure and Your servant loves it. (Ps119:140)

One reason people set God's Word aside is because It is "pure". They
are not. They would rather engage in things that "feel good". They do
not love God's Word. This is why they are tearing down the "walls of
doctrine". You see, God's Word, His 'doctrine' is a "wall" to them; It
shows how they come "short" of His "glory". (Rom6:23) They are trying
to climb in some other way besides the "door into the sheepfold". They
are "thieves and plunderers".(Jn10:1) Since they do not belong to Him,
His Word has no place in their hearts. And so they bring into their
"pretend church" all the things of the world; those things they are
comfortable with. All the programs, concerts, sensuality, campaigns.
But they are void of God's Word.

But Believers (Jew or Gentile) are a "special" people. Specially set
aside for God's glory. Unique. Showing forth God's "marvelous light."
If it is -light-, it is naturally going to "stand out" and be
"different" from the things of the unregenerate "pretend church". Being
unregenerate, they are in darkness. "Light" is -ALWAYS- a "contrast" to
darkness. It is different...BY DESIGN. You cannot mix the two.

They are "sons of disobedience". So "do not be partners with them; for
you then were darkness, but now light in the Lord; walk as children of
light." (Eph5:7-8)

Amen!
