" Greatly Beloved "

Was Daniel great? Look at all the prophecies he foretold!

The king asks: Are you able to answer me this dream?

Ahem! As a matter of fact, why, yes I am. I am spirit-filled and anointed and.... and...

"Daniel replied before the king and said, The secret which the king has demanded cannot be declared to the king by the wise men, the conjurers, the magicians, or the fortunetellers. BUT THERE IS A GOD IN HEAVEN who reveals secrets, and makes known to King Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head on your bed, are these:" (Da2:27-28)
Daniel did not go ram-charging into the realm for God. When there was a question about what 'food' they were going to eat, he says, "Let's give this a ten-day trial" (Da1:12) They trusted God. God gave them a favorable outcome. When God gave Daniel the king's dream, he is not high-minded. Daniel, can -you- tell the dream?

And so, some years go by. The son has now become king. We need an answer to a riddle. The queen-mother, remembering Nebuchadnezzar's experiences, suggests to her son that he have Daniel fetched. And what was his qualification? The list begins with "EXCELLENT SPIRIT".

So Darius becomes king. A lot of people worry when world governments become shaky, and there is talk of the possibility of the economy collapsing, and this and that. But notice that it was Bellshazar who was killed (Da5:30), and as Darius is mopping up and re-organizing, Daniel is one of the ones left to tell about it. Same as happened for Jeremiah: for all the turmoil and people being killed, Jeremiah was given his own personal freedom within the land, to do/go wherever he wished. (Jer40:4-5)

So as Darius is setting up the new government, Daniel comes under consideration. What qualifications? "because an excellent spirit was in him" (6:3) But of course, -politics- is happening. The "good" guy always gets picked on, and since his competitors couldn't find anything 'bad' with him politically, they devised politics against him because of his belief in God. We all know the story of the lions, and King Darius, when he realized what he has just allowed to happen, it says he was "very displeased with himself" (Da6:14) and bewailingly -hopes- that Daniel will be safe.

Daniel is known for his prophecies. His life is full of activities. Nobody is "repeating prayers" after him, and he is not leading in great 'awakenings' and 'revivals'. He's not much of a "soul winner". But kings are meeting the Lord. I'm sure Nebuchadnezzar came to know the Lord. Belshazzar's mother knew that he didn't. But I wonder if Darius knew the Lord? But the Babylonian "head of gold"....Daniel was -there-, right where everything was happening. And yet he spends time in repentance for his people (ch9)

And so, now, over a period of various days, weeks, years, God reveals visions to Daniel; about things that will happen in the 'end' time. And then as various angels are sent to explain the visions, the words are prefaced with...

"For you are greatly beloved" (Da9:23)

    "O Daniel, a man greatly beloved..." (Da10:11,19)

And notice Daniel's response...
Where does today's carnal church come up with the idea that "God's love" is the cue to go running up to Jesus, throwing one's arms around Him, and roll around in the dirt together? That it is the sign it's time to dance around sensuously while the rock band wails, thumps and throbs?

Around the time this was being addressed, some e-mail exchanges occured with a (former) subscriber. Some time back he had written, exhorting us to "pray for revival". Well, in the current context, when I had refused to record a certain piece of 'trash' music for him, he exhorted me,

"i assume you believe in the proper response to the call of God? I accept your response and hope that when the outpouring of God's Spirit is evident in all the carnal Churches, you won't harden your heart..."

And he included comments about us, all, being "part of each other".

And so I keep thinking. There have been some comments from certain sources to suggest that another "GREAT OUTPOURING" is coming soon. That it is related to some 'cycles' of occult world events as they are about to happen. They say that as WW1 came about there was a great outpouring wherein hundreds of thousands of people were... what??? 'saved'? Again when WW2 happened, there was another outpouring. So now, as WW3 is about to unfold, another "MOVE OF THE SPIRIT" is about ready? Another "OUTPOURING"? Some historians mention various names of certain famous preachers. And so I keep thinking....if there were outpourings of hundreds of thousands, why was WW1 followed by the "Roaring 20s"? Why was WW2 followed by Bee-bop and Rock-n-Roll? And both of those times were accompanied by increase in divorce and immorality. But if that many were (what?) "saved"? why was there not more "holiness" in the world? When the early disciples preached, it says the world was "turned upside down" with the Gospel. (Ac17:6) And yet....I don't recall reading about any of that in recent history. When the occultists were saved in Ephesus they burned their thousands of books on the bonfires. But today's apostasy embraces the occult.

Or...were those "great awakenings" merely satan's deception? To -look- like something, but not be real?

Is everybody all 'part' of each other? Jesus said that the tree is known by its fruit. And to those who like to wax flamboyant He says...

"Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in Heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many works of power in Your name? And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who work out lawlessness!" (Mt7:21-23)
Those who are, as Jesus says, -NOT- entering Heaven are obviously NOT -part- of those who -are-, actually, Saved. Lord, Lord, I'm a christian. I enjoy fellowshiping with my brothers and sisters. I'm spirit-filled. But like the negro spiritual that says, "Everybody talkin' 'bout heaven ain't goin' there, heaven, heaven"

Daniel didn't conduct great crusades. He was "faithful". And that is what the Christian should be.

"Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful" (1Co4:2)
What is the desire of God's servant? What is the desired accolade? "Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your Lord" (Mt25:21,23)

With Daniel it was... ONE GREATLY BELOVED.

Can you imagine anything greater!

Isaiah saw God's holiness, and was called, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us? Then I said, Here am I! Send me." (Is6:8)

And Isaiah was the prophetic messenger of Messiah.

God does not do His work through "great awakenings". He saves people one-at-a-time. If -thousands- are coming "under the anointing", they may adapt to the appearances of holy living (for a time), and there might be stories of taverns going out of business (for a time)...but when people are being emotionally pumped up, even with hell-fire and brimstone messages, and they come up to the altar weeping...if all it is is emotions, and following the crowd, it is not real. They are merely changelings who, after a time need to revert back to their bucket of slime to rejuvenate. The people will eventually go back to the taverns. Shysters and snake oil salesman can persuade people, too. Over the years I would hear about the "great awakenings"...and then along the way I read a few accounts...of the ones being "slain", or being in occult or demon-possessed-like trances or spells. Those "thousands" were not coming in -REPENTANCE-. They were not coming under conviction of -SIN-. They were coming under the "anointing". True Godly anointing does not happen if there is still sin in the heart. If the 'anointing' came first, it came from satan, and is actually demon-possession.

Godly sorrow works repentance leading to salvation. (2Co7:10) It does not lead to the so-called "charismatic gifts". On the day of pentecost it was the disciples (the ones preaching) who spoke in tongues. It was not the 3000, being saved, who did so. And the way things happened was that they were "pierced to the heart" (Ac2:37) with conviction, and then repented.

If you begin to see another "outpouring" with stadiums full of people falling on the floor, do not be deceived. Jesus' words are that it is the "Few" who are finding Life, and the "many" are headed to destruction. (Mt7:13-14) Just because they raise the decibels of their voices through their PA systems calling out "Lord, Lord..." we have been spirit-filled, Jesus says, "I never knew you" (vs23)

Remember, Noah was "one of eight" (2Pt2:5) Only three escaped Sodom alive. Jesus did NOT promise a "great revival". Paul says that rather than revival, their "form of godliness is without power" (2Ti3:5) as they are "falling away" (2Th2:3) It's not real. They have the appearances; but "inside are dead men's bones" (Mt23:27)

Years ago I used to think I wanted to do great things with music. After all, you know, musicians are -seen- before thousands of people; so therefore it must mean they are "ministering" to those thousands. Right? But when we realize where the church is today, it looks like the Lord knew what He was doing when He altered my trajectory. All those thousands of the world; who today no longer even care for the kind of music that is God-honoring? (give us some guitar and thump-thump)

Those words to Daniel are some of the most precious I can imagine.
