"An end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land. Now the end [has come] upon you, And I will send My anger against you; I will judge you according to your ways, And I will repay you for all your abominations. My eye will not spare you, Nor will I have pity; But I will repay your ways, And your abominations will be in your midst; Then you shall know that I [am] the LORD!' (Ezekiel 7:2-4)
Once a person gets past all the various doctrinal topics which people take issue with VW about, likely the one common topic of the criticisms that come are that VW is "so harsh". People will often claim to like many of the writings, but will object to the "tone" of the website. That it is so "critical" and sets itself up as "right" and "everybody else is wrong". That I, as the writer, must have a lot of psychologically unresolved issues, and pent-up resentments due to various things that happened during my lifetime... that that's why I write the way I do.
Now, if people aren't complaining against this writer, but do so against The God Most High Whom we proclaim, then, it is that God is "so cruel, mean, vindictive, unloving." They don't like "that kind of God". They seem to be of the opinion that the God we proclaim, by His very character, sits 'up there' on His throne, full of 'generic' wrath. That God is watching mankind, just waiting to 'pounce' on His 'victims'.
No, they don't like 'that kind' of God. They like the God "of luuuuv". The one who would give them roses, and never say a cross word to them. Never tell them, "No, don't do that". One who will "come along-side" and hold them by the hand, whispering sweet-nothings in their ears, in the 'way they are going', giving them 'positive' reinforcement for their -chosen- "lifestyle". After all, didn't He endow us with certain "unalienable rights"? I have "my rights", and nobody, NOT EVEN GOD, better mess with them!
But you see, such views prove that the person holding such ideas is "without God in the world". (Eph2:12) But just because such people are blind to God, doesn't mean that the True God doesn't exist, with His own True attributes. Just because they refuse to see Him in His reality doesn't mean that the laws He put into place don't affect them. Just because a person "didn't like" the law that posted "55mph" speed limit as being "too restrictive" and infringing on his "personal rights", and the person decided to drive 80mph, doesn't mean that the arm of the law won't pull him over and drag him to court for punishment. Furthermore, if the speed limit was reduced, due to a sharp curve, and he continue along at 80+ mph, he will also reap the results of the laws of physics which dictate that his vehicle is going to tend to want to continue in a 'straight line', and so he is going to go off the road, crash, and be injured or killed. It doesn't matter that the driver "doesn't like" the laws of "centrifugal force" or "speed limits", he is still governed by them, and suffers the consequences if he exceeds them.
Notice when God's wrath is poured upon mankind, that He says, "I will repay your ways." (Eze7:4) "I will repay you according to your ways" (vs9) "I will do to them according to their way, and according to WHAT THEY DESERVE I will judge them." (vs27)
And then, what is the result?
"Then you shall know that I am the LORD!" (vs4) "Then you will know that I am the LORD who strikes". (vs9) "Then they shall know that I am the LORD!" (vs27)
After that first week (34 years ago) of owning my first motorcycle, and I was no longer stalling the engine every other time I let out the clutch, I was feeling pretty 'invincible'. But then, I suffered the consequences of my ignorance when the laws of "centrifugal force" and "oil viscosity" on the road surface met up with my back tire. In those days they did not have special motorcycle safety classes, nor mandatory helmet laws. The motorcycle endorsement for the driver's license consisted of the officer watching me ride up and down the street. There were no manuals telling how to "watch the road surface" for dangerous things. I was blissfully ignorant; just like many are of God's existence. But my ignorance did not prevent me from suffering the consequences of exceeding those laws. My actions had me riding too fast, and not slowing down and avoiding that oil. When the bike slid out from under me, and I went bouncing down the pavement after it, it was not Centrifugal Force's "hate" of me that gave me my scars. Oil did not "have it out for me" and just lying in wait there to "get me". But I nevertheless received "according to my way". And what was the result? I then "knew the laws" of 'curves and oil spots'.
Mankind likes to continue in SELF-confidence, ignoring God. But when their "ways" come back upon themselves in God's judgment, they "will know that [He] is the LORD!"
So, when motorcycle safety courses came along, and license testing standards were elevated, and the instructors teach, as part of the course, complete sections on "hazzard avoidance", are those training manuals "vengeful"? Are those instructors full of "hate" because they warn how to avoid danger on the road? When a student on the instruction range twists that throttle too much for the particular learning exercise and the instructor YELLS/SHOUTS to them to "S-L-O-W D-O-W-N" or "S-T-O-P" !!!! are such commands indicative of a "certain tone" of "criticalness"? No! Facts are facts. If you go too fast for conditions, and you are not qualified to handle them, you are going to be injured...or worse. The instructor is having "compassion" on the student, wishing for his/her 'safety'. Thus, he -YELLS-, in order to "pull them out of the fire" of danger. (Jude23)
But if that student goes out, and decides to just "peel rubber", he will suffer the consequences of breaking the "laws of motion" as they relate to the "laws of friction". And many such riders -DIE- for "their ways".
When we are told that "the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress [hold down] the truth in unrighteousness" (Rom1:18) God says, "I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies". Thus He pleads, "Therefore turn [repent] and live!" (Eze18:32) But if a person REFUSES to REPENT, then, the judgment they receive is the "recompense [of] their deeds on their own heads" says the Lord GOD." (Eze11:21)
While Romans 1:18 is written about the world, in general; these portions from Ezekiel were proclaimed against Israel, God's own chosen people. Just as they refused to repent, but said, "No, but we will go to the land of Egypt (the world)(Jer42:14), so does a good percentage of christendom today. Even many of the staunchest conservatives who hold to the KJV as they "defend the faith", refuse the notion of Repentance. Israel said, "we will keep our vows" to worship the Queen of heaven. (Jer44:25) And today, as christendom is returning to her "mother" at Rome, they continue to worship the same "Queen".
God said to Israel, "You have not walked in My statutes, nor executed My judgments, but have done according to the customs of the Gentiles which are all around you." (11:12) This is what christendom is doing; those things we speak of periodically... doing things the way the world does them, with rock concerts, show biz, sales tactics to 'con' people into 'the church'. To the Jew of Ezekiel's day "Gentile" was synonymous with "unsaved". Today's "church" is using the methods of the ungodly world in order to increase their 'numbers'. And in the process, have become predominantly organizationally unsaved, themselves. They have not kept away from being "unequally yoked" with unbelievers. (2Cor6:14-17) Thus, when God's judgment comes upon the "church" [small "c"] (and COME, it will), what they receive will be "recompensed..on their own heads" due to their "ways". It will be their "just due" (Rev16:6)
There has been an increase, again lately, in forwards from people keeping me informed as to what the discussion boards/lists are talking about; on the topic of the Rapture. They are saying, alternately, that their will be NO RAPTURE, or that it will come AFTER the 70th week is complete. And they wax eloquent about how Christians need to be willing to go through the purifying that God intends for them.
Well, let me tell you, you who believe this way... You who believe these things CERTAINLY WILL go through the 70th week and God's wrath. The "church" you speak of, WILL GO THROUGH the time of God's wrath. And it will have nothing to do with "purifying". The purifying God will do during that time is for Israel as He works at restoring Israel to fellowship with Himself, so that they will offer "offerings in righteousness". (Mal3:3) That will be the process where He "will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them" as He will teach them his "statutes and judgments" and they will then "be My people, and I will be their God." (Eze11:19-20) As Paul said, "And so all Israel will be saved.." (Rom11:26a)
BUT.. [BUT] "..as for those whose hearts walk after the heart of their detestable things and their abominations, I will recompense their deeds on their own heads", says the Lord GOD. (Eze11:21) They will have satan's works "with all power, signs, and lying wonders...because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved [when they had the chance and knew better]. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they ALL MAY BE CONDEMNED who DID NOT BELIEVE the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness." (2Th2:9-12)
This is not talking to/about the world. This is talking to those claiming to be God's special people: the ones who used to be seen as the "church" but are "falling away" (2Th2:3); those, "with most of [whom] God was not well pleased.." whose "bodies were scattered" in judgment and death (1Cor10:5) Multitudes from the world will be saved during the 70th week. (Rev7:14) "And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the sons of the kingdom [including the small 'c' "church"] will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Mat8:11-12)
"Put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and cry over all the abominations...to the others...go..kill...utterly slay; but do not come near anyone on whom is the mark; and...
Since we're on this "traffic" theme, one more example. On certain busy streets where there is lots of traffic, certain pedestrians and runners think they must run 'in the street', when there also happens to be a sidewalk there. At dusk or night a pedestrian gets hit by a car. The neighborhood gets all in a turmoil... the problem? Traffic zooms by there too fast. We must get the police to set up speed traps to slow the cars down, and post slower speed limits. Or... for years people have pulled out into traffic at an uncontrolled intersection; but suddenly, recently, somebody pulled out into the path of an oncoming car and was killed. The surviving members of that victim's family petition to try to get a 4-way stop or traffic lights at that intersection.
You see, the fault was not that pedestrians were occupying traffic lanes, in the dark, with dark clothing, where they should have been using the sidewalks. It was 'TRAFFIC's' fault. [Editor: there are times I am awfully tempted, when I see such pedestrians, of going up and driving on the sidewalk! That would "show them"!!] The fault is not the person who was inattentive, or was otherwise a generically inept driver; the fault was that there were no traffic lights to lead the inneptitude by the hand.
You see, the problem is not that I am a sinner. Oh, no! God is just too full of wrath, and His ministers are MUCH TOO "judgmental". So, let's change the nature of God. He is 'really' a different kind of "god" (in my mind) than the Bible proclaims. The problem was not that the daughter was being promiscuous; it was the schools' fault for not providing the condoms and sex education. But, her "way" came back upon herself when she became pregnant.
The problem was not that the children rebelliously continued playing around in front of my store area, next to a -HEAVILY- trafficked street, even though they were continually warned by me and others in the building to not do so, as they would sass back at us; and bulbs would continually be missing from the neighbors flashing readerboard sign, and letters missing or rearranged to spell out vulgarities. Sometimes their play, on skateboards, rollerblades and bikes over that "jump" at the end of the building, would land them into the street when they would fall and go rolling. It was about everything I could do to not laugh that one time the fellow spilled BIG TIME and he was obviously in a lot of pain, but when he saw that I saw what happened, he couldn't 'dare' let on that it hurt. "He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the LORD shall hold them in derision." (Ps2:4)
When that little girl was hit by a car over a year ago at the next block away from my store [Editor: during a week-end, I didn't see when it happened, it was in the news], the parents were seen on the news commenting how the traffic needs to be slowed down on the street; not how they had not disciplined and kept a leash on their children. Passing the buck. It is always somebody ELSE's fault... not mine! But guess what! Those children no longer play around the front of the building! They haven't for some time, now. I have never heard if that little girl survived and pulled through. But when "judgment" (that car) came along, they suddenly "KNEW" the truth which they had rebelliously rejected for so many years. And, no... the speed limit has NOT been reduced along there. It has always been just fine as it is.
There is a way [that seems] right to a man, But its end [is] the way of death. (Pr14:12, 16:25)
