" Weeping Prophets "

"Oh, that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people! ...I will take up a weeping and wailing for the mountains, and for the dwelling places of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up..."(Jer9:1,10)

Every year our local "Fairchild Air Force Base" holds "Aerospace Days" where the public can "freely" drive into the base to the flight line; climb into various airplanes, see aerobatic demonstrations, etc. This year the "Thunderbirds" were the prime attraction. Since I had only ever seen Canada's "Snowbirds" and our Navy's "Blue Angels" before, I wanted to see the team that is boasted to be "best in the world."

The flight line is vast. Various airplanes on display. Tankers, trainers, helicopters, various fighters and bombers; as well as vintage planes. I love airplanes!

This year, however, was different. As I sauntered around all this technology, a small portion of our military wealth, might and world- "supremacy"; I was struck with an utterly overwhelming sense of doom and "imminent catastrophe." One can walk inside the length of the KC-135 tanker and lie on the "couches" the refuelers lie on. 'Can walk under the open bays of the B-1 bomber. On past, and around the Stealth Bomber; double-roped, under armed guard, with posted signs cautioning the use of "lethal force" if necessary, to keep it secure. When it was first unveiled to the public years ago, when I asked "where its gun ports were"..."that's classified."

All this hardware...for "WAR!" Designed to destroy, and KILL people! As I faced the B-1 to admire its sleek design and imagine it traveling at supersonic speeds, I was then imagining a sky full of planes from many nations. My eyes welled up with tears a lot this particular day, imagining the utter devastation that even one of them could wreak.

As the six planes of the Thunderbirds performed, while I was impressed with their precision, my mind was also realizing that "right here" we had but "six" planes. The announcer expressing that "all" pilots are trained with these skills. As I was seeing their maneuvers and listening to their afterburners, I imagined a sky-full of planes in combat, afterburners full-blast to "hurry" off someplace to bomb or shoot, as is just about to be the case in the near future; and the utter devastation that will be.

And then, looking around at the "families." Clean-dressed people; well-behaved children; babies in strollers; all having a good time eating their hot dogs and drinking sodas. Not-a-clue as to what is about to come upon the world. I'm sure they were oblivious to my thoughts and tears as I stood amongst them.

With the new nuclear arms race, have you noticed what part of the world that is? When we live in our complacency and isolation, we forget that China and India are next-door neighbors. Together, they comprise the largest concentration of humanity on this planet. Seven years ago Saddam was diverting water from the Euphrates River. "Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared." (Rev16:12) China today boasts the ability to man an army of 200 million. "Now the number of the army of the horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them. (Rev9:16) And what of nuclear warfare? "And this shall be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, Their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, And their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths. (Zec14:12) Be assured, nuclear weapons WILL BE used again. And if a person has ever noticed other numbers in the book of Revelation, before all is said and done, over half the world's population is going to be decimated. As Jesus said, "..unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved.."(Mt24:22a) We see how these prophecies could be fulfilled just between China and India alone, let alone everything else that will be occurring.

Do we begin to see exactly what is coming to the world? Dear reader who believes in Jesus Christ, do you ever shed any tears because of this? You who do not know the Lord have every reason to be scared "spitless." Scripture says, "men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of heaven will be shaken. (Lk21:26) Dear Believer, does your heart yearn for those who are lost? "..the harvest is ripe. Come, go down; For the winepress is full, The vats overflow; For their wickedness is great. MULTITUDES, MULTITUDES in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision." (Joel3:13-14)

What is the cause for judgment? God says, "I listened and heard, but they do not speak aright. No man repented of his wickedness.."(Jer8:6) Of those who are supposed to be God's people, claiming authority and power He says, "How can you say, 'We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us'? Look, the false pen of the scribe certainly works falsehood.. behold, they have rejected the word of the LORD.."(8:8-9) So God says, "shall I not punish them for these things? ..shall I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?"(9:9)

As Jesus looked over Jerusalem He WEPT, "If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. because you did not know the time of your visitation."(Lk19:42,44)

Paul's heart is evident, "For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you EVEN WEEPING, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:" (Phil3:18)

Ultimately the end-of-the-line comes. "He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still..." (Rev22:11) The only thing they will be able to say is, "The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved!" (Jer8:20) What sad words!

While we who know the Lord shed tears because of this, we ulti- mately come to understand, "Even so, Amen."(Rev1:7b) God is righteous and holy. In many cases God says, "..do not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer for them, nor make intercession to Me; for I will not hear you." (Jer7:16)

Many are seeking to be religious and "worship" God. But God says, "For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them...concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices. But this is what I commanded them, saying, 'Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you...yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but followed the counsels and the dictates of their evil hearts.." (~7:22-24) This was written about Israel. But it is true today of that which calls itself the "church."

What is the True Believer's boast? "But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands Me, that I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight," says the LORD.(9:24)
