A Voice in the
Post-election fall-out is turning out to be almost more telling than the pre-election rhetoric and posturing. Before the election we were hearing from the candidates. Now that the election is past, we are hearing the people. What are we hearing?
In a mailing to the subscribers, which is not posted at the website because it was primarily -to- [C]hristians, we observed the possibility that, due to the high percentages that voted for "Moral Values", that perhaps God's wrath against this nation's depravity has been assuaged a bit for a time; that perhaps we have a reprieve with His grace and mercy.
As the final vote counts were certified, and states officially committed to their electoral counts, and the 'map' was all colored in; what the map showed was mostly massive 'red' through the heartland. The 'blue' areas were the west coast, the northeast, and the areas around the Great Lakes.
And I got to thinking; and please think along with me a moment; and don't scoff too vehemently until you've reached the end. Today Hollywood has become proficient with special effects. The movie "Deep Impact" depicted comet/asteroid fragments plunging into the ocean, and wiping out millions of people along the east coast of America, and west coasts of Europe, from the resulting tidal wave. If the 'heroes' of the movie hadn't been successful in blowing up parts of the object, such that the whole thing had impacted, the expected results were such that they were planning for "nuclear winter" and preserving people in a special place, to re-populate the earth once the earth was again habitable. This past week a CSI-Miami episode had a tsunami (tidal wave) hitting Florida and doing massive damage, and killing people. The world 'understands' the concept of oceanic/tidal devastation.
Here's a word Jesus spoke regarding the future: "And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the SEA AND THE WAVES ROARING; menís hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory." (Lk21:25-27)
From other Scriptures we know that there will be massive earthquakes and volcanic upheavals; mountains being flattened and islands disappearing into the oceans. "Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked places shall be made level, and the rough places a plain; (Is40:4) In John's visions of the future he recorded: "...there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men came to be on the earth...And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found." (Rev16:18,20)
There is the so-called "Ring of Fire"; the tectonic fault lines that skirt along the edges of the continents encircling the Pacific Ocean; where earthquakes happen regularly, and volcanos spew forth. Scientists keep waiting for "the Big One" to hit, with the potential for these areas sea-ward from the fault lines to sink into the ocean. This is even mentioned in Scripture, the confidence the psalmist says the Believer can have in spite of calamity: "Therefore we will not fear when the earth changes, when MOUNTAINS ARE SLIPPING INTO THE MIDST OF THE SEAS. Let its waters roar and foam; let the mountains shake with the swelling of it." (Ps46:2-3)
Thus, I was looking at that election results map with fascination. Just as God knew man would sin, and prepared for Jesus' coming to die to propitiate sin "before the foundation of the world" (1Pt1:20); so, too, He planned ahead for the Day-of-the-Lord when He "divided" the earth (Gen10:25) into its continents. He "foreknew" where the concentrations of corruption would be, and so He designed the makeup of the land masses accordingly, for the final judgments. All three 'blue' areas are located, either where the future potential is great for catastrophe, or the past has seen such catastrophes that would suggest the same could happen there again. The most perverse areas in the world, Hollywood and San Fransisco are on the ocean-side of the fault line. At the other end of the continent that led in the same-sex marriage militance, that area has always been susceptible to severe storms, and would be right in the path of tidal wave events. The Great Lakes in the past were formed by the so-called "Ice Age" (read: "Noah's Flood")
Now, while we as Christians speak of God's reprieve and mercy for this nation's collective stand for morality; those who voted "blue" are -just- as disturbed that the election didn't go their way. They are hopping mad, and in some cases, utterly beside themselves in anguish and frustration. They are angry at (what we've said in the past) the 'perception' that Bush is an "evangelical christian"; and thus, the election results look to them like the heartland is a "christian nation"; of which they object to, with every fibre of their being; because they DON'T WANT ANYTHING that even -hints- at Christianity, even nominally; even though True Christians know this country is ANYTHING-BUT [C]hristian. Let alone any sort of 'reality' of the matter; they loathe even the 'perception' of it! (Oh! If only those calling themselves "Christian" would practice such holiness [separation] from things that are not Godly with similar vehemence and zeal!)
The 11/9/04 "End-of-Day" mailing from Gary Bauer (Campaign for Working Families) had some interesting observations:
"I think the radical Left is having a nervous breakdown. It is now a week since the election and Americaís liberal elites are still in a meltdown over the results. How upset are they? Would you believe they are talking about secession from the United States of America? Seriously folks, there is a map circulating all over the Internet depicting a new country called the United States of Canada. The new nation consists of Canada and the 19 blue states won by Senator Kerry. As one secession advocate put it, we want "a new country away from the rednecks in Oklahoma and the homophobic knuckle-draggers in Wyoming."
"Reuters reported the day after the election that the number of hits from the United States to the Canadian governmentís main immigration web site shot up six fold. According to Maria Iadinardi, an immigration ministry spokeswoman, "When we looked at the first day after the election, November 3, our web site hit a new high, almost double the previous record high."
"By the way, guess what they are derisively calling the rest of America that voted to reelect the president ≠ Jesusland!"
So, perhaps God's coming wrath will be 'selective'? Remember, when God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, he got Lot and his two daughters out first, as the angels said, "Hurry, escape there! For I cannot do anything until you arrive there." (Gen19:22) Also, when God was judging Egypt, He made a distinction for the Land of Goshen where Israel was living. (Ex8:22)
Perhaps this recent election has drawn the lines, the boundaries?, of God's judgment? It has shown 'where' the hard hearts are, that are rebelling against God WITH ALL THEIR MIGHT. And it has shown where the people at least have -some- sense of morality....of right and wrong. The lines separating between the lands marked for judgment, and those which God will spare In-That-Day..?
Perhaps you think this discussion is "insane"? Something else Gary Bauer's e-mail told:
"The intolerance of the Left is breathtaking. Their sense of intellectual superiority is boundless. One PhD emailed me today to tell me that it was ignoramuses without any education who voted for George Bush, while the smart people, like himself of course, voted for Kerry."
But hear God's Word:
"For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified...And my speech and my preaching were not with enticing words of human wisdom, but in proof of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
"Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which human wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he is not able to know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual discerns all things, yet he himself is discerned by no one. For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ." (Selections from 1Corinthians ch1-2)
But if you are reading this 'after' the Resurrection/Rapture, and you have come to learn about God, and you fear Him...you would be advised to move out of the "blue" areas (if you live there) for your own safety. This is said in the same spirit that Moses warned the Egyptians to move their animals and servants to safety before the plague of the hail. (Ex9:18-19) Those who heeded, survived. Those who scoffed at God, hardened their hearts and continued in rebellion, were destroyed.
"Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to Jehovah, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon." (Is55:7)
