" Alone? "

You that have been with us for a while, now, know that my alarm radio is set to our local Moody Radio station. After listening a while I know when it's finally time to 'get up' when Joe Stohl(sp?), president of Moody Bible Institute is on with his program "Proclaim." This morning they played excerpts of his recent speaking to a Promise Keepers meeting, and he was saying words to the effect...

We are never so weak as when we're alone! We need another
PERSON to help us along for strength. ...it's a "guy thing."
    (emphasis added)
Revolted at such talk, I jumped out of bed and turned the radio off! I immediately thought of Daniel. When he was thrown in with the lions, he was "alone" humanly speaking. Oh, poor, poor Daniel...how did you deal with it...all "alone?" Daniel responded, "My God sent His angel and shut the lion's mouths..."(Dan6:22)

When He was predicting how His disciples would abandon Him, Jesus said, "..and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me."(Jn16:32)

Yes, the writer of Hebrews says, "Not forsaking the assembling of yourselves together..."(10:25) But that is in the context of "boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus."(vs19) ..of Christ, our High Priest. Of stirring one another up to these things. What things? The things of Jesus Christ. ...Not..."guy things"..!!

Moses was "alone" when God revealed Himself to him, and told him His name, "I AM."(Ex3:14) It was when Moses was "alone" due to Israel worshipping the golden calf, and God had said, "I will not go up in your midst, lest I consume you on the way"(Ex33:3) Moses is pleading with God on behalf of Israel, and in the midst of this asks God, "Please show me Your glory."(vs18) And Moses was "alone" when he received God's commandments for Israel.

When Paul was alone and all had forsaken him he said, "But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me."(2Tm4:17) And it was while he was "alone" in prison that he wrote a good share of what we read now in the New Testament. Known as "prison epistles."

If John had not been "alone" in exile on Patmos(Rev1:9), we would not have the book of "The Revelation."

Paul wrote, "Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake... (these are all "alone things") ... For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2Cor12:10) Because he realized, "I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me."(Phil4:13)

You see, the difference is, "Who are we looking to?" Another "person?" Promise Keepers says (in their song/s) "You be Jesus to me and I'll be Jesus to you." In other words, they are looking to men...to "guy things." Coming awfully close to the NewAge/United Religions concept of that "god within" ..since we are all "christ." ...Taking deity upon ourselves. Satan's ancient lie, "I will/you will be just like God..." (Isa14:14,Gen3:5)

Compare this to...

"Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith..."(Heb12:2)
