" Four Fingers "
Promise Keepers - "Standing in the Gap"

"Everybody hold up four fingers!" At this point in the Promise Keepers "Standing in the Gap" (SITG) rally at Washington,D.C. I had figured out that the opening remarks, the preaching against sin, of encouraging the listeners to come to God and love God were merely the smoke screen of deception, to mesmerize the attendees into the "true agenda" for the rally.

No, I did not attend. But watched as much on TBN, "live," as my day would permit, or kept the TV on and listened from other rooms while I did other things. I wanted to be able to know fact from fiction "later" when/if anybody were to query me about it, or I were to read "eye- witness" accounts of it, etc. Initially I did not intend to "respond" to SITG by writing about it. But that was "my" desire. This morning, however, the Holy Spirit says the lie must be exposed by God's Truth from Scripture, and I "must" write.

The "four fingers?" The four "points" of agenda for the SITG rally. The four topics. Let us compare their four points against God's Word. Then look at their "mission for the future" and see how it compares with God's Word.

First of all, what is "standing in the gap?" In Ezek 22:28 God is saying that the prophets speak falsehoods, claiming to speak "God's word" when it wasn't. That the people "used oppressions" and committed all sorts of evil. "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and STAND IN THE GAP before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one."(vs30) Our nation is more-than-ready to be judged by God, and SITG were rightly praying, "Lord have mercy!" But will these prayers do any good?

FIRST "finger": Repentance for "personal failures." The one gentleman was preaching what sounded like a good ol' fashioned "hell fire and brimstone" message to repent, and love & turn to God. And I was being tempted to think, "this isn't so bad...so what's all the hullabaloo about PK, anyway?"

Trouble is, repentance from "deeds" does not save. "Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity (nature in sin), and in sin my mother conceived me."(Ps51:5) Jesus said that unless one was "born again" (a new nature) he is not saved.(Jn3:3) And if we merely repent of "deeds" and then "promise to DO better" that is a salvation of "works." Which..true salvation is "not of works."(Eph2:9) Where SITG was repenting of deeds done to other "people," Jesus said the one who said, "God, be merciful to me, the sinner"(Lk18:13) was the one who went home "justified." We need a new position "in Christ." (2Cor5:17)

SECOND "finger": Repentances, promises and resolves to not abuse wives and children, and become the kind of husbands and fathers they should be.

Certainly, good and noble topics to consider in an "all-men's" rally. VW's October article, even, speaks of the Biblical Godly role of husbands. But we need to devote remaining space to three and four.

THIRD "finger": "Miracle of the millennium!" Tear down the walls of doctrinal differences. End sectarianism. "Everybody, on the count of 'three' say the name of your church!" Cacophony! "Now, on the count of 'three' say 'Jesus Christ'." "JESUS CHRIST!!!" Sermons on Jesus' prayer in Jn17 "that they may be one." Jesus "wants us to not be divided." So, we need to accept "our brothers in christ." And, a friend heard a part I missed, that "we will become like God." All of this as we enter the next millennium.

As the camera panned the area, next to the platform there were what appeared to be paganistic artwork. Some sources say the whole staging area was designed and built by the Masons in the 1800's. And as one saw the 1.3 million people there, prominently in the midst of this; three Native American Tepees. Later, I would burst into tears, as a Native American "prays" he does so, attired in pagan, ritual full-feather headdress; representing those who look to spirit guides and animals to "teach them." All this, in the name "christian."

First of all, let's dispel, again, the misunderstanding of John 17. They are all asking God to fulfill that which Jesus prayed for, "that they may be one." But scarcely a day later, Jesus cried out, "It is finished!"(Jn19:30) Among other things, one of the things "finished" was the answer to His prayer, "that they may be one." As this prayer was for others, "I do not pray for these alone (the disciples in the upper room), but also for those who will believe in Me.."(17:20) How do we know that "it is finished" answered this prayer?

"For He Himself is our peace, who HAS MADE [past tense] both [Jew & Gentile] one, and HAS BROKEN DOWN [past tense] the middle wall of division between us, having abolished in His flesh the enmity...that He might reconcile them both to God in one body THOUGH THE CROSS, thereby putting to death the enmity."(Eph2:14-16)

The fact that PK-SITG is trying to generate unity and break down walls, means they don't know about the "unity" that ALREADY EXISTS to those who have "believed in Christ"(Jn17:20) And if they are not privy to that unity, then, they are not "in Christ."(2Cor5:17) Which fact is easy to see, considering the "first finger."

PK is busy uniting all sorts of pagan entities together under the umbrella of "christianity." Proclaiming "unity in diversity." Claiming that all the various pagan beliefs are merely "different parts" of the body of Christ.(1Cor12) But Paul pleads, "all speak the same thing..be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment."(1Cor1:10) John writes, "if anyone..does not bring this DOCTRINE, do not receive him.."(1Jn10) There cannot be unity as they seek it, when they are not part of Christ's Body.

FOURTH "finger": Racial unity. End bigotry. We are all of one blood. We should not hate our ethnically diverse brothers, but accept them just as ourselves.

Again, to those who are truly "in Christ" this was "finished" on the cross. For the "new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of [Christ], where there IS [present tense] neither [Gentile] nor Jew... barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all."(Col3:10-11) ..."for you [who are sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus] ARE [present tense] all one in Christ Jesus."(Gal3:28)

What is Promise Keepers' "mission for the future" as they now propose to "go into all the world?" What is the "gospel" of PK as they go into the world? Forget "fingers" 1 & 2..!! There will be 1) ongoing "prayer" to help everyone 2) catch the vision, and be spurred into 3) action. There will be many conferences for pastors, to indoctrinate pastors into this new mission.

This "gospel" is of 1) Uniting all faiths, so all "our brothers" can be one. So that all our Hindu, Muslim, Catholic, Buddhist, Shinto... "brothers" can worship together, so we can accept them all as our "brothers." 2) The gospel of racial equality. Break down the barriers of ethnic hatred.

What is the gospel which Jesus commanded to be preached? What was His commission?

The Mission: "Make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, [ONE God-Faith-Doctrine-Eph4:4- 6] teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you."(Mt28:19-20)

The Gospel: "..it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name.."(Lk24:46-47)

Jesus did not say, "Go into all the world and unite everybody religiously, culturally, and racially. What happened "last time" the world decided to "join together" and be one in worship and ethnicity; worshiping the "host of heaven"(Jer19:13) building a place of worship? God judged by confusing the languages.(Gen11:8) And later made more efficient work of the scattering by dividing the world into continents,(Gen10:25) thus, putting even more "distance" between the peoples; saying, "this is what they begin to do.."(vs6)

PK claims to be "standing in the gap" to dissuade God's judgment. All the while, slapping God in the face with their rejection of the "Jesus Christ" to Whom they pay mere lip service, while exulting pagan deities for the sake of unity and power...things for which God judged Israel. Rather than "standing in the gap" ...they are hastening God's judgment upon this wicked world.

Seeing how close that is, how much closer is Christ's return for His Church? Bride, are you ready? He is "at the doors."(Mt24:33)
